The new 2011 census, reveals non-Hispanic whites accounted for 49.6 per cent of all births in the 12-month period that ended last July. The minorities – Hispanics, blacks, Asians and those of mixed race – made 50.4 per cent in total, with Hispanics at 26 per cent, blacks 15 per cent, and about 4 per cent Asian. That compares with a 37 per cent ratio in 1990. Clearly Hispanics...or Latinos are in the lead in population growth and overall demographic increases in American cities and towns throughout the country. And in the field of business, finance and economic development, the Latino community has firm footing within industries across the globe.
Joining me today is Marcela Aldaz, one of the leading spokespersons representing ALPFA, the nation's fastest growing Latino business organization in the country.
======================== Note: The word Hispanic is used interchangeably with Latino. Latinas are women in the Latino/Hispanic community.

In 1868 Ann Jarvis lit the torch in the ashes of the Civil War by creating an annual memorial for mothers. It was her daughter Anna Jarvis who spread the seed of Mother's Day into the international celebration that it has become today.
Today's show will look at the holiday in its infancy and will trace its growth around the world. From it's beginnings at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in West Virginia to participation in Bangladesh, China and a bit of controversy in Germany...Mother's Day is an international tribute to the untiring work of women who care and nurture children in our societies. No matter the circumstances, from biological birth mothers to sisters, aunts and cousins who stand in the gap, Mother's Day is a celebration of the unconditional love Mothers bring to the world.
And then I will pay tribute to my own Mother, the late Gwendolyn Charleston Copeland, and my daughters, grandmothers, aunts, and cousins who complete the Mother's Day circle in my family.
This show will help you celebrate the resilience of women worldwide whose roles and responsibilities in raising and nurturing children can never be replaced. ======================== Your Comments Are Welcome Below... -Carole

Unlike White fraternal organizations who concentrate most of their activities during college years, Black fraternal organizations are active members of the community and are civically involved throughout adulthood.
Today we'll talk with two leaders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and learn more about Delta Day At The State House, an annual legislative conference replicated in states across the US. Past Chapter Presidents Natalie Carithers-Utley and Gloria Coney highlight this month's Delta Day at the Massachusetts State House, hosted by State Representative Gloria Fox. Issues including Stand Your Ground, Three Strikes , and Women's Health Care were part of a day long dialogue with sorority members, legislators, and the general public. Delta Day in Rhode Island also convenes their session this month.
It's a look at social action at the highest level. Come explore the inner activities of Black women on the move.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. A sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women, the Sorority currently has over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of Korea. It was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC.

At a press conference watched by millions of people around the world, Attorney Corey announced that she had filed second degree murder charges against George Zimmerman. Zimmerman turned himself in, was arrested, and at this hour is awaiting his first court appearance.
The public outcry has sent shock waves throughout the United States and beyond in this case of an unarmed Black 17 year old youth simply walking back from the store with a bag of Skiddles and a bottle of ice tea before being gunned down by a community watch coordinator.
Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, community policing, stereotypes and race are all on trial in this high profile case of “shoot first, ask questions later.” The tragedy of losing yet another Black youth should cause pause for all of us in all 50 states to review our own state laws as we seek justice and equality for ALL.
To help us understand Florida’s legal system and clarify the difference between first degree, second degree, and manslaughter charges is celebrated Florida attorney and Past President of the National Bar Association Warren Hope Dawson.
Special thanks to the esteemed Michigan Attorney Wilson A. Copeland II, for securing our interview with Attorney Dawson. ========================

Log Onto: www.blogtalkradio.com/globalcarole Listen LIVE or Download Anytime ======================== The tragic murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin rips at the core of America's deeply embedded problem: a race problem eroding at the heart of America's social infrastructure. As we reflect on the 44th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination (April 4, 1968) why is race such a potent factor in how decisions are made, who gets arrested, and who gets murdered in this country?
Two special guests are featured on today's show to discuss this case and these tough issues. Ed Primeau is an audio and video forensic expert, and was recently featured on Rev. Al Sharpton's television program on MSNBC. Ed analyzed the 911 tape that captured the screams during the February 2012 Trayvon Martin shooting. His analysis finds that the screams did NOT belong to the shooter, George Zimmerman.
Our second guest is bank executive turned community activist Monalisa Smith. The tragic murder of her 18 year old nephew drove Smith to launch a non profit activist group that she now heads: Mothers For Justice and Equality. (www.mothersforjusticeandequality.org)
Although my own 17 year old son died of a tragic car accident in 1997, I deeply identify with the loss of yet another African American young man who will never reach his manhood. Far too many Black youth are NOT reaching their full potential, as their lives are snuffed out in the blink of an eye.
Today's show will look at the evidence and examine the race factor in the death of Trayvon Martin.
About Mothers For Justice and Equality (MJE)
MJE was founded in the fall of 2010 in response to the murders of young people in the City of Boston. A group of women, each of whom had suffered losses of children to violence, came together with the vision of a world in which it is never normal or acceptable for children to be murdered. MJE’s purpose is to unite the community in an effort to end neighborhood violence by engaging mothers in solving the crisis of violence on our streets. Like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MJE believes that, if given the right tools, mothers can become catalysts for change at home and advocates for change in their neighborhoods.
The Boston based organization is headed by Monalisa Smith. Ms. Smith is also the Vice President of Community Relations for Citizens Bank.

When my friend, Virginia Nelson, invited me to attend an acupuncture session at her home, I was indeed curious. I was always mildly interested in learning more about the topic, but just didn't have that "push" to dig deeper. So when the invitation came, I decided to give it a try.
With a living room filled with friends and colleagues, I offered up my right thumb to Dr. Beth Sommers, who stuck her magic needles in the right spots and minutes later the nagging carpal tunnel in that thumb had decreased substantially. And it stayed that way for several days.
That was my introduction to acupuncture. And Beth Sommers, PhD, MPH, LAc joins me on today's show to demystify acupuncture to our listening audience and explain why it has become a popular alternative to traditional Western medicine for many around the world.
Dr. Sommers is the Director of Research and Education for Pathways to Wellness/AIDS Care Project, a non profit organization in Boston. Shel will also talk about the other services offered by the organization, including shiatu and Chinese herbs.
Join in the conversation as we explore alternative medicine during Women's History Month.
Pathways to Wellness, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to providing equal access to high quality holistic care including acupuncture, shiatsu, and Chinese herbs. Within a compassionate and empowering environment, Pathways provides complementary therapies for our clients as an adjunct to their Western medical care. Working in partnership with community health centers and organizations, Pathways promotes a continuum of care for our clients in body, mind and spirit.

Log Onto: www.blogtalkradio.com/globalcarole Listen LIVE or Download Anytime ======================== During Women's History Month we turn our attention to Black Women and Self Care, and Health Issues. After taking care of children, eldery parents, job responsibilities, the church, the community, friends, and a wide range of extended family issues, there's often not much left for women of all stripes...especially Black Women. We'll explore this important topic with leading expert Byllye Avery and a new book on the subject, Health First! A Black Woman's Wellness Guide. Byllye Avery is a well respected women's advocate and founder of the Black Women's Health Imperative. Then we'll take a walk back in time and pay tribute to Ellen Craft who staged one of the most daring and dangerous escapes to freedom in American history.================ Ellen Craft (1826-1891)One of the most ingenious escapes was that of a married couple from Georgia, Ellen and William Craft, who traveled in first-class trains, dined with a steamboat captain and stayed in the best hotels during their escape to Philadelphia and freedom in 1848. Ellen, a quadroon with very fair skin, disguised herself as a young white cotton planter traveling with his slave (William). It was William who came up with the scheme to hide in plain sight, but ultimately it was Ellen who convincingly masked her race, her gender and her social status during their four-day trip. Despite the luxury accommodations, the journey was fraught with narrow escapes and heart-in-the-mouth moments that could have led to their discovery and capture. Courage, quick thinking, luck and “our Heavenly Father,” sustained them, the Crafts said in Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom, the book they wrote in 1860 chronicling the escape.
