The month of June, 2004, launches the sixth annual Student Safety Month, a nationwide initiative to promote safe behavioral practices by students accross the country.  Founded by speaker and radio personality Carole Copeland Thomas, this special month was created to assist young people in making the right choices when driving automobiles, attending graduation parties and proms, and socializing with others where alcohol, other drugs or the possibility of violent behavior may be present.

Student Safety Month was created in an attempt to save lives. Ms. Thomas’ 17 year old
son, Mickarl D. Thomas, Jr. (affectionately known as Mikey) was killed in an
automobile accident on June 14, 1997. Mikey had just graduated from high school six
days earlier, and was the recipient of a full academic scholarship from Morehouse
