Yes, we outsiders were shocked, but insiders who knew these men weren’t surprised. What’s even more damning are the scores of their defenders, after they release statements admitting their actions. Sexual Harassment is widespread, global and a daunting declaration of power and dominance over unsuspecting victims, both female, and male. Announcements about someone getting fired because of sexual harassment triggers incidences that happened years ago, tucked away never to be presented to the light of day. Sexual Harassment is a PROBLEM. And today’s show will tackle five key issues you should know about when confronting sexual harassment both on and off the job. From Congress to the break room at work, we all must face the issues of sexual harassment so that it can be contained and eliminated wherever possible. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Men of honor and integrity. Men who stared American bred racism and foreign hatred down and fought on anyway. They were the grounds crew. The flight crew. The administrators and leaders of their soldiers. Those who flew the planes. And those who supported or led the squadrons on the ground. And the military and civilian champions following World War II who continue to keep their legacy alive. This is great American story of the Tuskegee Airmen, whose roots go back 75 years to their beginning in 1941. I am proud to be the daughter of a Tuskegee Airman who bravely served from 1941 to 1946. As we celebrate Global Diversity Awareness Month throughout October, we salute the 75th Anniversary of the Tuskegee Airmen with our special guest, Willie Shellman. The New England Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen will celebrate this great story with a 75th Anniversary Gala set for Thursday October 27th on the Boston Campus of the University of Massachusetts. ------------------------------------- History of the Tuskegee Airmen For More Information visit: www.tuskegeeairmen.org This is the official organization for the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. The term, "Tuskegee Airmen," refers to the men and women, African-Americans and Caucasians, who were involved in the socalled "Tuskegee Experience", the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft. The Tuskegee Airmen included pilots, radio operators, navigators, bombardiers, aircraft maintenance, support staff, instructors, and all the personnel who kept the planes in the air. Virtually all black military pilots during World War II received their primary flight training at Moton Field and then their basic and advanced flight training at Tuskegee Army Air Field (TAAF). Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (TAI) is headquartered in Tuskegee, Alabama (about 35 miles east of Montgomery), where the training of black military pilots during World War II began. There are currently 57 active chapters of TAI located in major cities and military installations throughout the United States. -------------------------------------- October is Global Diversity Awareness Month, a celebratory time period I created more than 18 years ago to highlight the importance of expanding your reach beyond your own race, culture or ethnicity. Very much like driving a car, the rear view mirror helps us to anchor those things behind us. But you can’t drive a care totally looking through that mirror. It’s a reference point….that helps you measure the distances of events now gone. Much like that rear view mirror, you must learn from your mistakes, celebrate your victories and move on to your future. 2015 is almost gone and 2016 is a brand New Year! On today’s show we’ll look at ways where we can celebrate your great achievements of 2015. We’ll also look at New Year’s Eve practices of old, including the tradition of Watch Night still very important in the Black Community. We’ll trace the history of the New Year’s song Auld Lang Syne… And we’ll determine how to put your best foot forward in 2016 so that you can better predict how to succeed, achieve AND cope with the realities of the new frontier. Happy New Year To You And Your Family From Carole Copeland Thomas ============================ History of Auld Lang Syne Source: Wikipedia "Auld Lang Syne" is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). It is well known in many countries, especially in the English-speaking world, its traditional use being to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight. By extension, it is also sung at funerals, graduations and as a farewell or ending to other occasions. The international Boy Scout youth movement, in many countries, uses it as a close to jamborees and other functions. The song's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago", "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for (the sake of) old times". The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (1570–1638), Allan Ramsay (1686–1757), and James Watson (1711) as well as older folk songs predating Burns. Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "In the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "Once upon a time..." in his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language. Robert Burns sent a copy of the original song to the Scots Musical Museum with the remark, "The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man." Some of the lyrics were indeed "collected" rather than composed by the poet; the ballad "Old Long Syne" printed in 1711 by James Watson shows considerable similarity in the first verse and the chorus to Burns' later poem, and is almost certainly derived from the same "old song". Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon; The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone: Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold, that loving Breast of thine; That thou canst never once reflect On old long syne. CHORUS: On old long syne my Jo, On old long syne, That thou canst never once reflect, On old long syne.It is a fair supposition to attribute the rest of the poem to Burns himself. MODERN TRANSLATION Source: www.english-zone.com Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And days o’ lang syne! Chorus: For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne, We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet For auld lang syne! We twa hae run about the braes, And pu’d the gowans fine, But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot Sin’ auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl’t in the burn Frae morning sun till dine, But seas between us braid hae roar’d Sin’ auld lang syne. And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere, And gie’s a hand o’ thine, And we’ll tak a right guid willie-waught For auld lang syne! And surely ye’ll be your pint’ stoup, And surely I’ll be mine! And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet For auld lang syne! For Christians, Jesus is the reason for the Season. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and ALL faiths can join in the spirit of Christmas with prayers of Peace on Earth, Good Will to ALL Men and Women!
One of the BEST movies that you can watch this Christmas is "It's A Wonderful Life," the 1946 classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. You will count your blessings after watching that film no matter what your circumstances, challenges or problems happen to be. I watched it for the umpteenth time last night and found new reasons to count my blessings. From my home to yours I wish you the very best throughout the season.
