With the emphasis on diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion largely resting on the shoulders of people of color and women, what is the role of D&I for white men?  Are they the villains in the quest to standardize equality and fairness, or is there a strategic role they must play for justice and equity to permeate the American landscape?

There certainly are enough high profile cases that complicate this universal goal, and fringe right-wing hate groups that continue to muddy the waters.  However, white men play a central role in identifying opportunities to improve our society by bringing respect and dignity to all people regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

Today’s guest, Robert Principe knows the challenges we face and what’s needed to recruit more white men as allies in the D&I arena.  He’s a veteran diversity practitioner and will walk us through the steps necessary to align white men with diversity and inclusion in a way that is helpful, encouraging and proactive.

It’s an understatement that the 2016 presidential election is one of the most contentious in modern history. From our major candidates calling each other liars to sexual assault allegations stretching back 30 years, it’s difficult to tell if this is a presidential campaign or a nasty reality show.  Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are fighting their way forward to the White House in the most combative style in modern history.
Voter turnout will be the key to the victor, and much of that will depend on who turns up, turns out and casts their ballot for the candidate of their choice.

I am a product of the Civil Rights Era of the 50s and 60s…and the right to vote is very very precious to me.  I’ve missed very few elections and scratch my head when people don’t vote. My second son in law recently became a US citizen so that he could vote in the Nov 8th election. Voting is power and voting is a privilege in this country.

Joining me today is Dr. Nichole R. Phillips, Assistant Professor at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University whose recent stellar commentary sheds new light on why this election will set the course for the United States for years to come.

===============

Commentary By Dr. Nichole R. Phillips
About tonight's presidential debate and not voting in November...
Donald J Trump is consistent. His debating efforts are not geared towards winning new constituencies. His efforts are always to please and appease his voting base. He is not attempting to garner the favor of "the African Americans," "the Latinos," or "the Mooslems." He is on a slippery slope with "the women" - and knows that, so even if his apology is insincere - he might just need "the women’s" vote.

Don't be fooled also by whom you conceive of as his "stereotyped" voting base. While many traditional Republicans are defecting, he has an even larger traditional/establishmentarian base that still supports his candidacy.

His candidacy is about "making America great...again" and thus also about the large segment of the American population who fears the drastic social changes on the precipice of occurring in America in the next 10 to 20 years.

With that said, I keep reading millennials and Generation Xers profiles about not voting in this election (and I am certain there are some baby boomers who will not vote for the same reasons, but I don't have many of them as "FB friends”).

Here is my position on that. Life must be lived outside of the social capital associated with FB thumbs up. Stop being self-righteous, scared, and/or cavalier about "not voting." You choose the "lesser of two evils" all the time! Much of life is lived in the "gray," not in the black or white.

Take a position, stop being indecisive and vote! Because even if you do not vote, either "30,000 e-mails deceitful" HRC or "p***sy grabbing" DJT will emerge (that is a promise) as the next President and your life and livelihood will still be affected by the policies of whoever emerges as the next President! (Four spots on the Supreme Court are up for grabs so I have now alerted you about a pressing issue that demands your attention and your vote because nominations are submitted by the next President.)

So have a say!  NOW IS THE TIME …NOT AFTER THE WINNER TAKES OFFICE - in whom you want to shape the course of this country and your life for the next four years!

By Carole Copeland Thomas

As an African American professional who has spent a lifetime in my community, I will detail the reasons why most black voters won’t vote for Donald Trump on November 8th.  I’ve spent nearly 30 years crisscrossing the country speaking and training on diversity, multiculturalism and leadership…and the legacy of our nation is at stake with this upcoming election.

Today’s show is designed to separate reality from fiction…to set the record straight about the collective ideology of a resilient group of people whose blood, sweat and tears helped build this nation.

Although a small percentage of black people will vote for Trump, and an even smaller percentage will vote for third party candidates, the majority of African Americans will vote for Hillary Clinton this fall.

This program is designed to set the record straight and help you, my listeners, understand why the outcome of this presidential election is based in part on how blacks will cast their votes in this election.  I should know.  They are my people.  I’ve known them all my life.

===============

The 8 Reasons Why Blacks Won't Vote For Donald Trump For President

1.  History and migration from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party
From 1930s to the 1960s.

2.  Trump As The Head Of The Birther Movement

3.  Code Words and Slogans Used
"Make American Great Again"

4.  Hate Speech Toward African Americans
Unemployed, Poverty, Getting Shot Walking Down The Street

5.  Past Discriminatory Practices
Housing Discrimination in the 1970s
Employment Practices in the 1980s

6.  Black Surrogates like Pastor Mark Burns, Omarosa and Don King

7.  General Attitude of Trump Toward:
Women, Mexicans (Building The Wall), Latinos/Hispanics/,Muslims (The Khan Family),Women and Weight (Miss Universe), Immigrants in General (Syrians), Anyone who Criticizes Him

8.  Reviving Stop and Frisk in Urban Areas

What should have been topics long ago off the table are more important than ever.  Front and center in our current presidential campaign are diversity and multicultural issues. In our corporate boardrooms: diversity and multicultural issues.  In our classrooms and teacher lounges: diversity and multicultural issues. In our work cubicles, office spaces, field sites, labs, departmental divisions, police stations and executive suites: diversity and multiculturalism.  They are the topics that thread us together for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health.

Diversity and multiculturalism are who we are and how we connect.  We just need to find better opportunities to bridge the gap between enhancing our educational awareness of each other to yield better and more effective cooperative collaborations.
We’ll explore these twin topics during today’s program in our conversation with educator and community advocate Nancy Thompson. She’ll talk about an upcoming Community/Police Forum that will cover everything from racial profiling to drugs in our street.

Then I will walk you about three new events my company is  producing to help drive the conversations forward: The November 3rd Multicultural Conference and our upcoming public trips to India and Cuba.
Topics that should pique your interest.  Topics that should expand your thoughts and actions in relevant and amazing new ways.

I've never been a bystander, and try to live my diversity message in all that I do. The recent comments of Donald Trump and now the absurd Twitter posts of his #1 black surrogate Pastor Mark Burns will be the topic of my radio program today Thursday September 1st at 1pm Eastern at www.blogtalkradio.com/globalcarole. I invite you to join me on the show as we dial back the hodgepodge of stereotypical rhetoric that's being hurled aimlessly at the black and Latino communities.

My special guest on today’s show will be political commentator and Boston Herald columnist  Kevin Peterson.  We’ll talk about the rise of Trump, his theatrical events yesterday in Mexico and Arizona and why most black people and Hispanics are NOT supporting him in November.

Hate on steroids.  That’s what the Trump machine is churning out as he flip flops on several issues, including building a wall between the US and Mexico.  Listen to today’s show and understand why your vote in November matters so much in a country divided about the Trump bag of tricks.

As difficult to fathom America is now catching up with the rest of the world with last week’s horrific killings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.  Americans barely blinks when mosques are blown up in distant lands or Christians are burned alive as they huddle together seeking safety in war torn nations.  Now in this country the carnage has moved from schools building to Bible study classes in the basement of historic Black southern churches.

The Honorable Rev. Clementa Pinckney will be buried tomorrow and eulogized by President Barack Obama.  The other eight victims will be buried in the days to come. The services will be huge and no doubt televised.  The tears will flow and the ultimate question, “Why?” will be asked.

And in the wake of last week’s massacre remains a demented 21 year old “soldier of death,” who still waves his Confederate flag in his twisted mind. White, young, hateful with a gun.  A deadly combination.

Today we will explore the challenges and opportunities that America faces as it wrestles with the contingency of dissonances that just cannot embrace a globally connected multicultural nation.

And we will celebrate the Supreme Court’s ruling today that upholds the Affordable Care Act…otherwise known as Obamacare.

Take Down The Confederate Flag!

Read Now

The Civil War ended in 1865, and now more than 150 years later the battle flag of the Southern states is still at the crossroads in South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia and elsewhere. From license plates to T-shirts to flags, the "stars and bars" remains a hateful symbol of slavery to the Black community.

With the execution of nine innocent African Americans merely attending Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina on June 17, 2015, the killer was a 21 year old White supremacist who cherished the Confederate flag.

With racial hatred and gun violence robbing this country of true progress, it’s time to take down the Confederate Flag and park it in a museum where it belongs.

Most of the cameras have gone home replaced by horrific stories of ISIS beheadings, ebola outbreaks and back to school activities filling the headlines.  But there is still so much we do not know about the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown six times, his motives and his predispositions that caused him to react in such a violent manner.

The cameras might be gone, but the US Federal Justice Department hasn’t.  Yesterday they announced that they are launching a full scale investigation of the entire Ferguson Police Department that will probe into current and past police activities in this suburban St. Louis city of 21,000. Their findings will be followed by all of us who care about social justice and equal rights in America.

The larger question remains, “Is There A Ferguson Near You?”  Why, since the beginning of our country over 230 years ago are racial tension. violence and distrust such heavy clogs in the wheels of progress and cultural collaboration? And most importantly what is needed to push us past the angry and evil linchpins that keep popping up in Ferguson, Fresno and the Framinghams of our country?

Joining us to discuss these weighty issues are Monalisa Smith, President, CEO and Founder of Mothers for Justice and Equality and Community Activist and Blogger, Candelaria Silva-Collins.

Who said Black people can’t trace their roots? Dr. Wayne Davidson dispelled that myth with a remarkable journey that took him through Europe, Africa and the shores of Virginia.  Using DNA testing, genealogical resources and painstaking research Davidson details the journey of his last name and how it became one of the cornerstones of America, one generation at a time.

Come along on this journey and use this book as a guide to explore the inner passages of your own family tree. Davidson’s new book, When Clans Collide, can certainly serve as a template for your own family historical research no matter what your ethnicity happens to be. This is the program for anyone curious about your historical past.

About The Book And The Author

Wayne Davidson is the author of When Clans Collide:  The Germination of Adam’s Family Tree through Surname, Life Experience, and DNA. This book traces the ancestry of his name Davidson in America, Europe and Africa. During his research he has found that his family tree is connected to George Washington by marriage and other notable historical figures.

Wayne Rudolph Davidson, a research analyst, earned a doctoral degree in management and organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix. He is also the author of Manufacturing African American Self-Employment in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. He and his wife, Bertha, have four girls with four-year college degrees and one granddaughter. They currently live in Michigan.

On this day June 19, 1865, emancipation was finally granted to the remaining slaves in the rebellious state of Texas. Two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves in the confederate states, the hold out White plantation owners grudgingly and reluctantly gave in to the pressures of the US government, but held onto the racial hatred embedded in their hearts.

Fast forward to 2006, a short eight years ago, when Black financial tycoon, Mellody Hobson, was mistaken for kitchen help while in New York City on a campaign fundraising trip for Harold Ford. The manager who made that awful blunder needed to clean out the cobwebs and realize that Black people have significantly advanced since the rough-shod days of our Civil War past.

Mellody recently created a TED Talk about her experience, urging her audience to move from being color blind to becoming color brave. We’ll talk about this lingering issue with veteran consultant and former Chair of the National Black MBA Association Bill Wells, Jr.

It’s an American issue that simply won’t go away.

=======================

About Juneteenth Day
Source: www.juneteenth.com

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.  Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.
