DISTRICT ASSIGNMENTS
50th QUADRENNIAL SESSION OF THE GENERAL CONFERENCE of the AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION • • • Wednesday July 6, 2016 to Wednesday July 13, 2016 Pennsylvania Convention Center Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Bishop Gregory and Rev Jessica Ingram, Presiding Prelate and Episcopal Supervisor, First Episcopal District AME Church Host Bishop |
Dear Friends and Colleagues
Below is a document with results from the 2016 General Conference.
This document will also be modified and changed in the coming weeks as new information is added from last month's General Conference.
Here is what's included:
--The 20 Districts of the AME Church and the active Bishops who preside over them
--The Order Numbers that the Bishops were elected and consecrated with Bishop Richard Allen being the First Consecrated and Elected Bishop in 1816
--The dates that each Bishop will retire
--The Conferences in each District. Take note that some Conferences constitute entire countries--such as Canada and India in the 4th Episcopal District
--The number of Conferences in each District. Please note that the 12th District had several changes since the 2012 General Conference. There will also be other changes to some of the African Districts since last month's General Conference
--The Office of Ecumenical and Urban Affairs, currently occupied by newly elected and consecrated Bishop Frank Madison Reid, III includes specific responsibilities. The position does not include presiding over a District.
--The 15 Retired Bishops of the AME Church. Five of them just retired last month at the General Conference including:
Bishops:
John Richard Bryant (The Hammond's Father in Ministry)
William Phillips DeVeaux, Sr.
Theodore Larry Kirkland
Richard Franklin Norris (who presided here in the 1st District before being transferred to the 7th in 2012)
Preston Warren Williams, II
--And lastly the 6 Bishops who were elected and consecrated at the 2016 General Conference include:
Bishops:
Harry Lee Seawright
Michael Leon Mitchell
Anne Henning Byfield (made history: brother a retired Bishop...first brother-sister pair elected Bishops)
Stafford J.N. Wicker
Ronnie Elijah Brailsford, Sr.
Frank Madison Reid, III (His father and grandfather were both AME Bishops)
