It’s Hispanic Heritage Month and we celebrate Rafael Torres as an entrepreneur who is living the American Dream. The Columbian born owner operator of Don Quijote Tours, runs a 20 year old destination tour company that serves its clients in Spanish, Italian and French. Rafael travels the world finding and signing up his clients to enjoy the sights and sounds of Boston in THEIR own language.
His entire family is involved in the business, and it has led to the achievements and awards that make him so noteworthy. My own Empowerment Recognition Breakfast recognized Rafael in 2010, and most recently the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism honored Rafael during its Fall Conference.
We’ll also highlight NINE different ways that you can demonstrate your Diversity Champion spirit by becoming a Citizen In Action. We’ll discuss why these options are important and how you can get involved, no matter how busy you are, how stressed out you are, or how many other commitments you have on your plate.
Put on your thinking cap and let’s cover the world on today’s show.

About Hispanic Heritage Month
In September 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week, which was observed during the week that included Sept. 15 and Sept. 16. The observance was expanded in 1988 by Congress to a monthlong celebration (Sept. 15 — Oct. 15), effective the following year. America celebrates the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America,
South America and the Caribbean.
Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively.
